Mary Esther and Robert Mast

Leading Rein Horses and Mules is owned and operated by Robert and Mary Esther Mast where they focus on quality over quantity. Both Robert and Mary Esther started riding ponies at a young age and aspired to become horse trainers. Robert has been training horses for numerous training programs and making a living horseback for the past 10 years and in 2023 decided to establish his own training program. Robert spent a few years working for ranchers in Montana and Wyoming. And working for an outfitter in Colorado which is what sparked his interest to start training mules. Mary Esther has also been ranching in Montana for a number of years and working for several different training programs in Ohio. Robert and Mary Esther got married in 2024 and now share their passion together.

They have a few mares that they raise babies with each year and are looking forward to offering a few of their home raised horses and mules in the future. They have a few gypsy x quarter horse crosses, some draft x quarter horse crosses, a few purebred quarter horses, and even a few mule babies that they raised.

Their horses and mules get exposed and desensitized to all kinds of things around the farm as well as trail riding, riding on state roads, in heavy traffic, and lots of obstacles. In the arena versatility is what is important to them. The horses must be soft in the bridle and respond well to seat and leg cues which makes it very easy for them to adapt to their new owners.

At Leading Rein Horses and Mules we highly recommend that any potential buyers, looking at our horses or mules, come out to the farm to meet and ride the horse or mule before the sale. Which makes it easier for us to assure that they are a good fit for their new owners.
